How Can a Blog Help a Teacher?

I have had this blog for quite some time. It has been a useful tool for me to utilize from time to time. I created this blog in my EDM 310 class at the University of South Alabama. All the assignments that are posted on this site is from that class. As you can see even professors use this great tool because it helps with keeping up with information and keeping connected. Among those two important items are numerous other benefits for a teacher using a blog.

Firstly, keeping up with assignments and posting videos of instruction that a student, whom may have been sick, or students who may need a refresher can view. This will allow students to be able to keep up with their work, and review at home. It is also beneficial for the parents, so that they can understand what is required of the students, which brings me to my next point. Another reason that a blog is great for teachers is posting due dates, newsletters, contact information, and calendars. Yes many other sites are able to do this but this will allow the parents to go to one central location to find the information.  If a teacher needs to use an external link he or she will be able to explain the importance of the link and have the parents or student click on the link and be taken to the site directly.

Not to mention bloggers are great for have students be pen pals with other students in other places. For example I was looking on a blogger and this teacher would have the students communicate from their own personal blogger to other students across the nation! It is fun, interactive, and engaging. Ergo, students will want to participate in the assignment.

There are so many useful ways to use a blog, and what is great is not one blog is alike! So if a teacher is unable to know where to start on his or her blog he or she can go and look at the hundreds or thousands of blogs that have been created. I actually was able to locate a 50 Must See Teacher's Blogs and all of them were fantastic with great ideas!
