Survey

Hi everyone!

I am so glad to see that we are close to Thanksgiving! So many things to be thankful for! I have just finished my survey and I would love for everyone to go and take a look and participate in it. This survey is beneficial for me to see what subjects you feel you are successful in and which ones may need work. This allows me to focus on individual needs during specific topics and create different strategies for helping students and others learn. Thanks for participating!

My Concept Map

Hi everyone!

These past couple of weeks we have been exploring Concept Maps and how we could use them in our classrooms. I would have to say that learning about the usefulness of concept maps was quite intriguing. There is not just one way to utilizing concept maps. A teacher could use them while explaining a story that the students are about to read, math lesson about to explore, or even allow them to create predictions for science. The benefits to this item is endless. It allows for the students to get an idea of what they are about to learn, enhancing their prior knowledge, in order for them to be successful in the lesson. This also allows the teacher to see if the students are comprehending some of the material that is being presented. This could help the teacher see if he or she needs to teach or reteach material (example: vocabulary, concepts, etc.).
I believe that if I were to use this item in my classroom I would have it assist me and my students with a science lesson, possibly the water cycle. This would help the students be able to see what the the water cycle has involved. I would display several of the vocabulary that would be seen throughout the duration of the lesson (evaporation, condensation, precipitation, run-off, etc.), important people and inventions, and different examples of the water cycle. This would assist the students in order to give them a pre-lesson to help them focus on the main concepts of the lesson. This is a great item to use in several different lessons, and would be beneficial for not only the students, but the teacher as well.
